Terms for downloading, installing, and using the LazyTyper desktop voice-to-text application

Welcome to LazyTyper! By downloading, installing, or using our desktop application, you agree to comply with these Terms of Service, which constitute a legal agreement between you and LazyTyper. Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using LazyTyper, you accept and agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our service and uninstall the application.

2. Description of Service

LazyTyper is a desktop application that provides voice-to-text transcription services. The application:

  • Records audio from your microphone when activated
  • Sends audio data to third-party transcription API providers (such as Groq, OpenAI, Mistral, AssemblyAI, or VolcanoEngine)
  • Returns transcribed text to your device
  • Allows you to configure and switch between different transcription providers

3. Third-Party Services

LazyTyper relies on third-party API providers for transcription services. You understand and agree that:

  • You may need to provide your own API keys for these services, unless otherwise provided by LazyTyper
  • When using your own API keys, you are responsible for complying with each provider's terms of service
  • LazyTyper is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or performance of third-party services
  • Your use of these APIs may be subject to their respective pricing and usage limits

4. User Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Use LazyTyper in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Not use the service for any illegal, harmful, or malicious purposes
  • Keep your API keys secure and confidential
  • Not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the application
  • Not use the service to transcribe content you don't have rights to

5. Intellectual Property

LazyTyper and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by LazyTyper and are protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

LazyTyper is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • The accuracy or completeness of transcriptions
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation
  • Compatibility with all systems or software
  • Fitness for a particular purpose

7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, LazyTyper shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:

  • Loss of data or transcriptions
  • Loss of profits or business opportunities
  • Damages arising from use or inability to use the service

8. Data and Privacy

Our Privacy Policy, available at /privacy, explains how we handle your data. Key points:

  • Voice recordings are sent directly to your chosen API provider
  • We collect optional anonymous usage analytics (can be disabled)
  • All settings and API keys are stored locally on your device
  • We do not store or have access to your transcriptions

9. Free Software

LazyTyper is currently provided free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid features or subscriptions in the future, though existing free features will remain available.

10. Modifications to Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes through the application or website. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

11. Termination

You may stop using LazyTyper at any time by uninstalling the application. We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to our service for violation of these terms.

12. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
