How LazyTyper protects voice recordings, transcripts, API keys, and optional analytics data

Welcome to LazyTyper.com. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal information when you use our desktop application or services.

Information Collection:

What We DO NOT Collect:

  • Voice Recordings: We do not store or collect any voice recordings or audio data.
  • Transcribed Text: We do not collect or store any text that you transcribe using LazyTyper.
  • Personal Content: We do not access or collect the content you create with our application.
  • API Keys or Credentials: Your API keys are stored locally on your device only.
  • IP Addresses: We do not log or collect IP addresses.

What We Collect (Optional Analytics):

LazyTyper includes optional analytics that can be disabled in settings. When enabled, we collect:

Device Information:

  • Operating system type (e.g., macOS, Windows, Linux)
  • System architecture (e.g., x86_64, arm64)
  • Application version number

Usage Events (No Personal Data):

  • Application lifecycle: app started, settings opened
  • Recording events: started, completed (with duration in seconds), cancelled
  • Configuration changes: model selection, language changes
  • Error events: error type only (no content or personal information)

Anonymization Method:

  • A random UUID is generated on first launch as your device identifier
  • This UUID contains no personally identifiable information
  • No personal data (names, emails, etc.) is ever associated with this ID

Voice Data Processing:

How Voice Processing Works:

  • Your voice is recorded locally on your device
  • The audio is sent directly to your chosen API provider (Groq, OpenAI, etc.)
  • Transcription happens via the API provider's servers
  • The transcribed text is returned to your device
  • LazyTyper servers never receive or process your voice data

API Provider Responsibility:

Use of Information:

The anonymous analytics data is used solely for:

  • Understanding feature usage to guide development priorities
  • Identifying and fixing application bugs
  • Improving application performance and stability
  • Ensuring compatibility across different systems

Data Retention and Storage:

Analytics Data:

  • Retention Period: 90 days
  • Storage Location: PostHog US data centers (us.i.posthog.com)
  • Deletion: Automatically deleted after retention period

Local Data:

  • API keys and settings remain on your device indefinitely
  • You can delete local data by uninstalling the application

Sharing of Information:

We do not sell or share your personal data. Third-party involvement is limited to:

  • Transcription APIs: Voice data sent directly to your chosen provider
  • Analytics Service: Anonymous usage data to PostHog (if enabled)
  • Legal Requirements: Only if required by law

Data Security:

Local Security:

  • API keys stored with restricted file permissions (0600 on Unix systems)
  • Configuration files stored locally with standard file system protection

Transmission Security:

  • All API communications use HTTPS/TLS encryption
  • Analytics data transmitted over encrypted connections

Your Rights and Choices:

Analytics Control:

  • Analytics can be disabled at any time in the application settings
  • Disabling analytics stops all future data collection immediately
  • Previously collected anonymous data remains subject to the 90-day retention policy

Data Access and Deletion:

  • You may request information about data collected from your device
  • You may request deletion of your analytics data
  • Contact us at support@lazytyper.com with your device UUID

Local Data Control:

  • You have full control over local data (API keys, settings)
  • Uninstalling the application removes all local data
  • No account or cloud sync means your data stays on your device
